Day 10 – Starting To Feel Good About Myself

So here we are at the end of 10 days.  I’ve just got home from training my Rugby referees.  The kids are in bed and I’m about to hit the sack as it’s been a big day.  One of the benefits about training hard is that it forces you to eat well, because in order to train hard you need to have plenty of energy on board to cope with the workouts and plenty of protein on board to speed up the recovery process so you can come back and train harder sooner.

On top of that you’re forced to make sure you do the little things properly to also speed up the recovery process.  When you get to my age, you take any short cut you can find to speed up recovery.  I’m slowly easing back into hot n cold showers as part of my daily routine and I’m eating plenty of vegetables because they assist my liver in detoxifying the body and ridding it of all the waste material that I produce due to the increase in exercise.

A few years ago I did a DNA test on myself and discovered I had a few faulty genes, especially those relating to the way my body detoxifies and the way it responds to fat loss.  While I’ll never be able to change my DNA, armed with this information I can now make good decisions about how to train, what to eat and how to recover.

All of these things give off a number of other benefits, but by in large the biggest benefit I’ve received since I started back on this journey, is my state of mind.  I truly am in a good head space at the moment.  I feel good about a lot of things.  I feel good about the way my body is reacting to the lifting and clean eating.

Workout fun and healthy eatingI’m thankful for all the great things in my life, my beautiful wife and my lovely kids.  I love my work.  Like most people, I too sometimes get down with work, but not right now.  I’m in a really cool place.

I’m thankful that I live in a great country.  With so much bad news floating around at the moment it’s good to know we live in a great place, free from a lot of the world’s troubles.

From a training point of view today was back and guns day again.  I’ve tweaked my program a little.  Last week i performed Lat pull down wide grip.  Today I changed the exercise to wide grip pull ups.  I was a little disappointed last week when I didn’t pull up sore from my back workout so I chucked in Pull Ups because they really work me.

I had steak and almonds for breakfast, a protein shake and an apple for morning tea, training mid afternoon, another protein shake and a banana after training, the remaining steak and veges before heading off to Rugby Referee training and when i got home I picked the remaining bits off another chicken carcass that was in the fridge.
