Day 2 – I Can’t Talk On The Phone Too Long? What???

So here we are, day 2.  Yesterday at 4.30pm, I finally took some action and actually trained and boy can I feel it today.

I have a bad case of DOMS and I know it’s only going to get worse.  DOMS, for those who aren’t quite in the know; is that soreness you feel after training.

For me, today, I’m sore in of all places, my triceps.  It got so bad today that during a telephone conversation with my good friend Andrea, I had to plug my head set in to the phone because I couldn’t hold my phone up to my ear any longer.  (Insert evil laugh right about now)

I’m what you would call a 48 DOM guy.  That means I usually don’t feel sore from a workout for about 48 hours, so the fact that I’m starting to feel sore only 24 hours later means I’ve done a good job on myself.

Salmon nuts and tomatoesFrom an eating perspective I find that if I have a nutritious and reasonably substantial breakfast, I am set for the day of eating reasonably well.  This morning I got up early, and cooked myself a baked Salmon fillet with fried almonds in coconut oil and some diced cherry tomatoes. Yummy

I’ll have a protein shake and a piece of fruit as a pre-workout snack and the train around 1.00pm.  I’ll have another protein shake immediately after training with another piece of fruit and then for dinner I’m not sure what Mrs Rae has planned but I’m sure it’s quite delicious.

The training program I’ve written for myself is nothing too complicated.  I’ve deliberately kept the exercises to some simple ones.  No standing on a bosu blind folded doing a funky 1 armed exercise for me.

At this stage I just want to get something done. So I’ve chosen the following program: 4 day split routine Chest & Triceps, Legs & Core, Back & Biceps and Shoulders & Core.  Day 1: Bench Press, Dumb Bell Flies, Overhead Triceps Extn, 10 sets of 10 reps with a 60 sec rest between sets, 2:0:2:0 tempo.  I’ve kept the weight to approximately 60% 1RM so that I maximize the chances of me actually finishing the session without any assistance.  Remembering of course that I’m flying solo now.

I feel really good about myself right about now.  I’ve woken up energised and rearing to go.  My head is in a good space and I’m really looking forward to what today has in store for me.  I’ve also found that my new found focus has helped in other areas of my life.  I’ve made a couple of business decisions that I’m looking forward to getting going. So all in all, life is good.

Today is leg day.  I write this post before I’ve trained so I dear say that I’ll be walking like a duck in a couple of days.
