best recovery after a workout

Like a three legged table, the key to achieving your goal is to get ALL THREE aspects right, eating clean, training smart and recovering well.

  • Eat poorly (rubbish, junk, crap food) and you can’t train to your peak performance.
  • Train smart but don’t recover well and you’re sore, tired and miserable and eventually you get sick, or worse INJURED.
  • Get sick or injured and you stop training, you get down and depressed and you eat crap emotional comfort food.

It’s A Vicious Revolving Cycle!!!

In all our programs and all the health and fitness information we supply we always harp on about recovery as it is so so important to any workout we always ensure you recover well so you can back up your performance and go again, and again and again!

  • Without getting sick or injured,
  • Without Flogging Yourself To The Bone,
  • Without feeling Tired, Sore & Miserable

MASSAGE TREATMENTS – Massage Stick

massage therapy for recovery

Soothes aching muscles, Speeds up your recovery, Enables you to go again sooner!

As a massage therapist I cannot push this enough as I see it daily that people do not do the right things to help their bodies recover and heal. I have ever since I can remember had massages. I do enjoy them yes, but my main reason is for recovery of a hard intense workout.

Your body needs them and if you cannot afford to get one weekly then you should invest in a massage stick or an electric massager. I know we would all love to have a massage chair that we could sit in at the end of the day but that may not be viable as they are expensive and they take up a lot of room.

I have a massage stick that I keep in my exercise bag and I have one at home. If I feel sore and don’t have the time to book in for a massage or just am having a really busy week then I know I can get my stick out and give my sore muscles a rub.

I also own a TENS machine.. A what? you ask. It is a machine that gives off electronic pulses, I have my kids use it when they have done an injury after sports or their muscles are tight.

They are amazing and again I could not live without one as sometimes my muscles maybe a little too sore for my massage stick so I will put the TENS machine on and it does the trick.

COMPRESSION GARMENTS

Compression sports garments

Compression sports garments prevents lactic acid build up, Speeds up your recovery, Enables you to go again sooner!

I wear my compression garments just about every time I train as I know how great they are and how much they help speed up my recovery. Believe me after 30 odd years of training and exercising I know how my body reacts and I know what works trust me.

Yes you can try without that is fine I have been there and done that but after training with them or even just putting them on after a training session and sleeping in them, I know my body recovers a lot quicker. Give them a try if you haven’t already you will not be disappointed.

ICE BATHS

ice baths for recovery

Ice Baths I loath then BUT I do them as I know they prevent lactic acid build up, Speeds up your recovery, enables you to go again sooner!

Yep they work, yes lots of discussion about them, but again after so many years of training they sure do work.

I sometimes go in the ocean as we live near the beach even in the middle of winter as the cold sea water is just as good as an ice bath.

I have actually taught my son that they are good he does them after a big rugby training session or game or after Athletics days as his legs are really sore.

His recovery is quicker, I know he is so much younger than me so it should be, but it is quick compare to some of his friends as they don’t do these things.

So remember recovery is just as important as training, if you want your body to recover so you can workout again and again do these things I recommend you will definitely see the difference in how quickly you recover and how much better you feel.

Have a read of my workout recovery time cycle as it will also explain a lot. Plus my post on Recovery Techniques which is similar to these but a little added.
