How To Make Infused Water at Home:

Making you own Infused water is so easy and this way you know there are no added sugars or additives. You will only need a few things to make these. 1. Fruit, 2.Water, 3. an infused water bottle or pitcher. That is it easy as 1,2,3…..

Filtered, Bottled or Tap Water?

Filtered or bottle water is always better to use but tap water is Ok. Those waters are cleaner, so this is really going to improve the overall quality and flavor of your infused water. Since not everyone has access to enough filtered water to fill infused water pitchers every time, tap water is okay but if possible do try to get filtered/bottled water.

We have heard for many years that warm water with lemon is very good for you and they say to start everyday you should have hot/warm lemon water. This is still the case but some days you feel like a cold drink as summer it can be quite hot and warm drinks make you feel even hotter and they don’t quench your thirst as quickly.

Organic Fruit is Preferred for Infused Water!

So organic is always recommended BUT I know it can be expensive and also hard to get sometimes so any fruit is better than none so just do what you can do. If you can grow your own or have friends or family who grow them then that is fantastic as it will be free from pesticide and so much better for you.

Easy Fruit Infused Water Recipes.

As you can see in the infused water pictures below, it is so easy just add your favorite fruits, some herbs if you like and voila…. there you have your Fruit Infused water.

What to do?

After you select the ingredients you want to use for your infused water, you will then need to prep them before putting them into the pitcher. You should always rinse the fruits and vegetables to make sure no chemicals are left on them, But if you have gotten the organic ones then that is great no need to wash off pesticide just a quick rinse will be just fine.

Some herbs like basil and mint are perfect for these infusions and they just need to be rinsed and the leaves added.

Most fruits and vegetables need to be cut at least in half before being put in the pitcher so that they can release their flavors. Some fruits and vegetables like apples and cucumber will need to be sliced as they take much longer to release flavor to the water. But with citrus fruit and berries they are softer, so just cutting them in half or quarters should be fine. You can leave the peel on citrus fruits if you like just make sure you wash it well first.

Glass Infused Water Bottle?

At this stage, you will be ready to start putting your infused water all together. The right container is a must so you should already have it. A glass pitcher is usually recommended as the less plastic you can use the better. BUT, regardless of which way you go, please just make sure it is BPA-free and food-safe.

How Long Can You Keep Fruit Infused Water?

When making your Fruit infused water, you will add the fruits and herbs first, then add your room temperature or cold water on top. You then want to let the water infuse so you can get good flavors and nutrients from the fruits and herbs that you use. If you are leaving it out on the counter, this will be great in a few hours if in the fridge overnight is preferable.

The best time to drink your home made infused water is within 24-48 hours after the infusing process is done. Ideally it is best to drink you infused water combinations the same day, but at least try to drink it within the first day or next. I would not leave it any longer than 2 days, 3 at the most, but please don’t leave it for any longer than that. The fruits are best if you removed them and only the water remains in the pitcher for this long. Citrus fruits such as lemons and grapefruit will remain fresher for longer, while melons are going to get soft and mushy quickly.

Also keep in mind that if you drink the infused water the same day, you can usually refill it 2-3 times with the fruits in the pitcher or bottle and still get good flavor from it.
