Just before Christmas I wrote a couple of articles on how to stay fit over the holidays and how to make a new year’s resolution. They were designed to assist you through the most difficult time of the year to stay fit and healthy.

How To Get Back On Track

As we near the end of summer, many people I’ve spoken to have told me that not only have they failed dismally in sticking to their new year’s resolutions, but many simply didn’t make one because of their fear of failure.

Recently I posted a Facebook update that provided the obvious answer to achieving a healthy lifestyle. It went like this: If you don’t exercise, do, if you do too much, cut back, if you don’t eat enough vegies, eat more, if you stress too much, chill out, if you don’t get enough sleep, go to bed earlier, if you sit all day, stand up more, if you drink too much alcohol, drink less, if you don’t drink enough water, drink more. It’s not rocket science, it’s a choice. Choose wisely and make no excuses!

It seems so simple, yet many people have difficulty with that message. Is it the exercise, is it the stress levels, is it the eating? What part of that message did you not understand? I suspect that it’s a combination of all three. So, in this article I’m going to show you how to get back on track?

The answer is simple: Stop making excuses and just do it.

Here’s a list of my all time favorite excuses that I’ve heard over the past 20 years why people can’t make healthy lifestyle changes:

  • I don’t have the time.
  • I can’t stomach breakfast in the morning.
  • I’ve got young kids.
  • My job is too stressful.
  • I don’t like the taste of water.
  • Buying organic is so expensive.
  • I don’t have the motivation.
  • I’m not fit enough to exercise.
  • But I only have one glass of wine a night.
  • I’m addicted to chocolate.

The list goes on and my response to these excuses is this: It’s your choice.

Here’s something interesting I learned over the weekend. The average Australian household has 21 LCD screens in them. OMG! 23. Lets count a typical house of 2 adults and 2 teenagers. 6 TV’s (1 in each bedroom plus 2 in the living areas), 4 smart phones, 3 desk top computers, 2 lap tops, 1 tablet, 2 DS’s, 2 DVD players, 1 Nintendo or Xbox. That is just insane!!!

The reality is we have the power in our own hands to live longer and healthier if we simply wake up to ourselves and make some changes.
