Happiness at Work as we spend a significant amount of time at work you should be happy there. Most of us spend a significant proportion of our lives engaging in work, in some capacity, but many struggle to find enjoyment and/or satisfaction in this crucial life domain. Why is this…and what can we do about it?

Today we are focused on finding happiness at work, and beyond.

Whether you like it or not, most of you reading this will spend 30, 40 or even more hours each week in paid employment so you might as well do what you can to gain some pleasure during these hours (and for those of you who do not engage in “paid” employment but who, nevertheless, work long unpaid hours in the home or somewhere else, the articles below will still be useful and relevant).

At the end of the day you really only have 3 choices:
1. find something about which you’re really passionate
2. find a way to love what you have to do
3. find a way to get out!

So read on and use the information below to help you choose one of these options!

Learn from the fishmongers in Seattle and be happy and energized at work:

–           Choose your attitude as you walk in the door.  Decide to be positive as this will affect everything you do and everyone with whom you interact.
–           Do good things for others.  Do your own job, well and effectively, but keep in mind that if you can help someone else then everyone benefits.
–           Be focused in the moment. Concentrate on what you’re doing and do it to the best of your abilities.
–           Play and have fun.  Performing well does not exclude enjoying yourself so look for ways to laugh and be happy while also doing what you need to do.

Stress Busting Techniques for Office Workers.

A top stress management specialist has come up with 10 tips to beat stress in the office.  Ian Broadmore, of Abintra Clinic, is a top hypnotherapist and life coach. His ten top tips for stress busting are:
1.         Learn to delegate: you can only do so much in a day. Spread the workload and spread the responsibility.

2.         Learn to say ‘no’. Often in a busy work environment you are called upon to do work that you are not experienced in, or in an area where you lack training. Learn to say ‘no’ and keep your stress levels low.

3.         If you are in a poor physical working environment, perhaps the office is too hot or cold, it will make you stressed (as you either freeze or swelter!). Either turn the air-con on or turn the heating up. You will work better and be more productive if you are comfortable.

4.         Plan your day; nothing causes more stress than unexpected events. Plan each day with prioritized tasks and stick to them.

5.         Learn to switch off for a 15 minute power break each day. Just a 15 minute break will refresh you and lower your stress levels.

6.         Avoid caffeine! Although coffee, tea, and other caffeinated drinks taste great, caffeine raises your heart rate and anxiety levels. Drink water instead. Dehydration can lead to migraines and headaches and an inability to concentrate.

7.         Take regular exercise: This is a given!!! And you have already addressed this by joining the gym and training with me.

8.         Keep your sense of humor! Smile. At the end of the day no problem is so great it’s worth risking a heart attack over.

9.         Introduce monthly stress buster meetings. Sit down with each employee and discuss how things are going. This approach will help cut stress because people will not bottle things up and will feel valued if you lend a sympathetic ear.

10.       Your staff are your best asset (and your colleagues are your best allies). Treat them with the respect – the same that you would expect in return – in order to ensure a happy, stress-free working environment.
