stepping it up
As today draws to an end I pause for a moment and reflect on this journey to date.  I’m a couple of days shy of 2 straight weeks of solid training and eating and I feel it’s time to take it up a notch.

From a training perspective, I’ve had a 4 week plan in place for 2 weeks and it’s working really well.  I’m tracking my exercises, weights, reps and sets and watching as the numbers slowly climb.

The trick when monitoring your program is to make sure you listen to your body and make slight alterations as your body speaks to you.

For example, if the body feels good, then a slight increase in either a set, a rep or even a weight is on order.  That’s the trick and also the problem most people have when they follow their own training program.Time To Step It Up a Notch

They don’t listen to their body and as a result, end up plateauing too quickly.  When you engage in a good personal trainer, not only should they be prescribing a program to both match your current fitness levels and goals but they should also be seeking constant feedback from you so they can get a feel as to how your body is coping with the workouts.

For example, a client of mine told me the other day that the reason why his wife stopped training with me was because she felt too destroyed after her workout to function in every day life for the next 5 days.  I get that, clearly I had pushed her too hard, but she never returned so I was never able to gauge some feedback on how she was coping.

In terms of taking it up a notch, its time for me to commit to similar levels of preparation and planning when it comes to designing for me an Eating Plan.

So far I’ve simply been making an effort to eat cleaner than I was and it’s been working really well.  Now it’s time to actually write it down, not only what I’ve eaten for the day, but some forward planning about what I’m going to eat in the future.

Today was a rest day, so I didn’t train today, but I still ate reasonably clean, with eggs and cherry tomatoes for breakfast, left over steak and vegies for lunch and chicken and vegies for dinner.  Only 1 protein shake today in the afternoon when I got hungry.

Tomorrow we’re back to day 1, which means chest, tri’s and maybe I’ll throw in another abs exercise.

Yesterday I was walking like a thunderbird, today nothing much has changed, although my hip flexors and abs are feeling a little sore today, most probably from yesterday’s shoulders and Abs workout.  I dear say tomorrow my shoulders will be a little sore.

Anyway, take care and I’ll talk to you tomorrow.
