IMPROVE YOUR GUT HEALTH, TAKE A PROBIOTIC

The human body is a walking talking bacteria haven.  We have billions and billions of bacteria all over us and all through us and the whole reason why we live is because of the existence of these bacteria.  Without bacteria, we would die, thus the importance of them cannot be overstated.  However, we’ve become so consumed with killing bacteria that this seems like a contradiction.  Why kill something that’s so important for our existence and indeed our survival?

In broad terms, our body plays a delicate balancing act between “GOOD” and “BAD” bacteria.  One example of “GOOD” bacteria can be found in the small intestines and their role, in very simplistic terms is to keep the “BAD” bacteria at bay.  Salmonella is one such “BAD” bacteria and anyone who has ever had a bout of salmonella poisoning will testify to the evils of this bacteria. Another example of “BAD” bacteria can be found in the mouth.  Bad breath is commonly caused by an overabundance of the bad bacteria which can build up overnight.

Certain 21st century activities can upset the balance between the good and bad bacteria.  An example of this is drinking alcohol.  Alcohol dramatically upsets this fine balance in the digestive system by killing off good bacteria.  If you’ve ever woken up after a big night out and had a bout of vomiting and diarrhoea, then you’ll know what I’m talking about.  This is your body reacting to the imbalance & trying to right itself through a quick and easy offload of the exact substance that caused the imbalance.

So what’s this all got to do with losing fat and what the hell is a probiotic?

When this balance is at its optimum, your body is in the perfect state to utilise its body fat stores for energy.  Anything outside of this balance, whether it is swayed one way (too much good) or the other (too much bad) and the body is placed under stress and as we will see in tip 42, reducing stress levels is a way of losing fat.

In the 21st century, it is highly unlikely that your body is going to be over balanced with good bacteria.  With so many of this century’s practices increasing our “bad bacteria” levels it’s no wonder there’s been a rise in sales of probiotics.

So what is a probiotic?  It’s a commercially produced supplement of so called, “GOOD BACTERIA” all nicely packaged up into a pill or potion.  The only problem is, unless they survive the digestive process (get through the stomach and into the small intestine) then you are literally tipping your money down the toilet.

There are a number of different technologies on the market that claim to protect the bacteria within the pill until it reaches the small intestine.  Seek out these and give the rest a miss.
