20 Time the big 3 right

The big three refers to protein, carbohydrates and fats, the three macro nutrient sources that your body requires in order to function.  Now the exact ratio that you require over a 24 hr period depends by a number of different factors, but the most obvious factor that you must take into account is your metabolic type.

Once you’ve nailed this, the next factor you must consider is  the timing their intake.  If fat loss is your goal and you are training on a regular basis, then it can become quite difficult to get the timing right because you are at conflict with your body’s demands.  On the one hand you want your body to use body fat stores for energy and on the other, when you are training at really high levels of intensity, your body can’t use body fat for energy.  So the trick is to time your carbs, protein & fat intake to satisfy both demands and it all depends on what time of the day you train.  You see, your training sessions MUST be fuelled correctly in order for those workouts to be effective.

So here’s a couple of general rules to get the timing of your big 3 right.

Eat a protein & carbs meal before and immediately after workouts.  The pre workout meal will enable there to be sufficient energy reserves on board for the workout. The post workout meal will replenish the spent energy sources immediately afterwards.  The added protein will assist with repairing any muscle damage caused as a result of the training.

All other meals of the day consist of protein & fat macronutrients.  So long as your total daily macronutrient consumption doesn’t exceed your metabolic ratio and you adhere to eating a good clean nutritious macronutrient you will definitely strip back your body fat stores.
